{YEMEN }
- A Fractured State - is an ongoing project covering Yemen since the Arab Spring, after 33 years of autocratic rule under President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Issues such as poverty, malnutrition, a growing population of refugees and immigrants from the Horn of Africa, tribal conflicts, water and agricultural issues, and an expanding, covert war against Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula are just a few of the problems testing the stability of the country and its new government. The way forward is challenged every day in Yemen under the influence of alliances between tribal communities and political leaders. Corruption is deeply entrenched, and many beneficiaries of the old regime are working actively to sabotage the country’s progress.
